[ZOOM-IN DTM] In Conversation, With Maria Fernanda Delgado
2023.02.03
Maria Fernanda Delgado – 7th Batch, Mexico
Maria was at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, working for the Mexican National Team as a New Markets Coordinator for the digital strategy during the World Cup. She was in charge of the English social media channels that communicated what happened with the team and around the city with the Mexican fans during the tournament.
Maria’s role was to overlook the digital strategy of the Mexican National Team before, during and after the World Cup. Her team had a very specific plan and ambitious KPIs to accomplish. On match-day, she was in charge of monitoring the pre-match and play by-play commentary during the match, as well as interaction with the online community after the 90 minutes were over. On non-match days, overlooking content production and posting was her role.
“I think our overall performance in any of our areas makes us use the things we learned in DTM.” Maria said while looking back the past in DTM. She said that what she learned in Korea was a holistic understanding of sports management. Also, she could see many of the things that were discussed in the classroom in practice for an event as big as the FIFA World Cup.
As she concluded, she added one point for the magazine subscribers. “The media perception of this event and the reality of it are almost polar opposites. You really have to live it to understand that the host country is full of stereotypes that are not likely to be true in their entirety.”
