Nahik Solano always wanted to work for FIFA ever since watching the 1998 World Cup in France. Step-by-step experience took Nahik to FIFA. First, Nahik completed the DTM program in South Korea obtaining the skills and knowledge. Second, Nahik got a chance to study in the LL.M.(Master of Law) at the University of Zurich, where he met professors from FIFA and also some colleagues from FIFA. That was a chance to make some networking while acquiring his International Sports Law Master’s Degree.
Nahik’s role in Qatar is to monitor if the conduct or incidents that happen fall under the respective regulations of FIFA. In other words, Nahik is working with the disciplinary. He works for the Judicial Bodies Division and he is in one of the Legal Councils. “I am working with the FIFA Disciplinary Code and within the Code, you will find some conduct and when the conduct is not respected, then we have to protect the integrity of the sport by investigating, prosecuting, and sanction, etc.”, Nahik summed up his role in FIFA.
Nahik pointed out three main learnings that formed the DTM. First, is the spectacular presentation for every module which helped him prepare a presentation for the meeting held once per week. He said that because of the best skills learned from DTM, he felt very comfortable when speaking in front of many people. The second is the knowledge he gained from DTM. He did not specify only about ‘Sports Law’ module but also the other module. When he had to talk about some topics, for example, sports marketing, the knowledge he took from the DTM helped him to talk about some cases that involved with sport-brands or similar situations. The third one is the experience during his DTMA Internship. He had his internship at KISS(Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, Korea Institute of Sport Science) where he learned how to research. “All of my experience at DTM taught me not just a way to see things in various aspects but always being acceptive, being questions, and looking for more answers.” Nahik said.
“There’s a reason why you call the DTM the Dream Together Master. The reason is that dreaming is something that we have to do every day. I still remember that one of the topics in the DTM was making one’s plan on life goals. I put my plan to work for the international sports organization in a 10-year plan but I did make it real in less than 3 years. Keep Dreaming! If you were appointed as the DTM Staff to be there, it’s because you are an excellent person. You are an excellent employee in your nation and sports organization, and you are an excellent part of where you are right now. You are chosen to be there! Don’t Stop, Keep Going, as long as you can, and don’t give up!”
